J Cole Is The Best Rapper of Our Era

The very first topic I want to establish is that Jermaine Lamarr Cole is the best rapper in the game today for many reasons. He is one of the only rappers to go platinum without any features on all four of his studio albums. This list includes “Cole World: The Sideline Story,” “Born Sinner,”  “2014 Forest Hills Drive” and “4 Your Eyez Only.”

J Cole transcends rappers in every field including relatability, originality, personality, and most importantly his purpose. He defies the stereotype of average rappers by being an intelligent, thoughtful, and caring person. Cole tells his fans his story in different ways and from different perspectives. This is what makes him so original.

He is a lyrical genius which forces some people to distance themselves from his music. Our generation revolves around money, clothes, sneakers, and girls. Cole uses his lyrics to illustrate great stories, he is one of the only few rappers who actually tries to use his lyrics to his advantage. He actually tries to use his words to spark a change in his fans, Cole has definitely had a positive impact on people’s lives including mine.

Cole’s personality is humble but very motivated at the same time. He has built a very reputable brand by bringing together talented people under the family of Dreamville. Cole is the type of man that is motivated to help other people and leave a mark on the world. He cares for the black community deeply that he even protested with regular people. What other rappers would do something as caring as that?

His relatability is probably his best attribute and it’s also very important when choosing who to listen to.You can relate to his hunger, his drive, his pain, and his struggle. Nothing was just given to him, he had to earn everything he has which is something everyone can relate too. They say J Cole once stood outside a studio for three hours just to give Jay-Z a track. He worked for everything he’s achieved now, this part of him is what resonates with me the most. He’s a great example of someone who had a dream and went after it relentlessly.

His distinctiveness or originality is another trait that sets him apart from all the rest. He has now released three different albums without any features while producing all of his songs. He’s the only rapper that is able to complete a feat like this one. He doesn’t switch up his flow just to be mainstream which makes him distinct from other greedy artists who are willing to give up their originality to please the public.

I would also like to discuss his purpose in the rap game today. Cole plays a large role that people don’t even appreciate. J Cole and Kendrick Lamar are the only two modern artists that still use their lyrics cleverly without relying on production or beats. They still care about the overall meaning and lesson behind their songs. His role is to bring clarity into the game and suppress the overwhelming ignorance clouding the rap society. Cole is a rapper that you can look up to as a role model in your life and he definitely is a role model to me.

J Cole, in my opinion, is without a doubt the greatest of all time for these reasons. No one’s music has touched my soul like his music. Cole has definitely sparked a change inside of me and is a big part of the reason I am the person I am today.

My cousin actually grew up with Bas, a well known artist from Dreamville and because of their relationship he has been involved in a lot of their activities. This led to my cousin creating one of J Cole’s first music videos and blessing me with the opportunity to meet J cole after one of his amazing performances. It felt surreal to meet the man that had such an enormous impact on my life but the one thing that stood out about him was the fact that he didn’t desire praise. He told his security to tell people to treat him as he was a regular human like you and I. His humbleness has no boundaries and that may be the biggest reason why he’s the greatest rapper of our era.

Tekashi 6ix9ine Interview

Interview FT Dwayne Warren

An Outside Perspective into Tekashi 6ix9ine

Tekashi 6ix9ine has finally been freed from jail and his comeback has become one of the most controversial events in history. His return has divided social media into constant argument over if what he did was right.

During this interview with Dwayne Warren, a student at Howard University we were able to discuss the controversial questions that everyone is asking. Dwayne is an avid music listener who has a deeper appreciation for the rap game. I wanted to get some insight on what someone who has so much respect for the game thinks about Tekashi after all the crimes and harm he’s done. Daniel Hernandez was facing almost 40 years on racketeering and firearm charges. He was able to overcome this obstacle by cooperating with federal agents to imprison various criminals in his gang, Ninetrey. He even told the feds about notable rappers that weren’t even a part of his gang such as Nicki Minaj, Cassanova and Trippie Redd. Now everyone wants to know if he should be accepted back into the rap society or not. Dwayne was able to give us a great perspective on the situation.

6ix9ine released his new song “Gooba” on May 8th and sent the world into an absolute frenzy. Tekashi’s highly anticipated release was witnessed by millions of people, everyone wondered what the rapper would be like after his hiatus. Would he repent or apologize to the victims of his crimes? Would he acknowledge the friends and family of the dozen other men in his case who pled guilty or were convicted? Everyone wanted to know how his first interaction with the world would go.

He announced that he will be releasing new music earlier that week. He also announced that he would be going live after the release. One thing that didn’t change about him was his amazing marketing and advertising skills. He has repeatedly shown that he is able to get the world’s attention. On this occasion he beat the record for the most viewers on a live Instagram story with 2 million. The second most viewed was 39 k which is nowhere near Tekashi’s numbers. 6ix9ine also broke Eminem’s record for the most Youtube views on hip-hop music video in the first 24 hours. Eminem’s “Kill Shot” did 38.1 million in the first 24 hours and 6ix9ine’s “Gooba”  did 43.55 million.

As you can see he is still a trending artist and many people are going to continue to follow him. After asking Mr. Warren if he thought people would still work with him, I got the answer that I expected. Dwayne explained “There’s still rappers that would work with him at the end of the day.” There’s always gonna be someone out in the world desperate enough to work with him for money. Money runs the world and this situation exploits that. His numbers are still there although no one knows if they are going to last.

Social media turned into absolute madness and constant argument on whether this rapper should be accepted into society once again. Public figures, celebrities and rappers debating over their personal opinion on this rainbow-headed troublemaker. Just like before various memes were made after Hernedez’s coming out party. He apologized to his fans and family for his sins then proceeded with his same shenanigans. Trolling different rappers and showing off the chains he bought. He also pleaded to the judge that he would change his ways. In December, Tekashi was literally begging the judge. “If given a second chance, I will not let this Court down and I will dedicate a portion of my life to helping others not make the same mistakes that I’ve made” Daniel “6ix9ine” Hernandez wrote in a letter to Judge Paul Engelmayer.

He lied to the judge just to squeal out of his situation. Although many people expected this behavior, he’s been acting like this since he blew up. Dwayne comments “He’s not a real gangster like we knew that” and then continues to say “He’s not about what he was talking about in his songs.” He’s basically a real life actor that acts like he has rapper tendencies but doesn’t. It’s going to be interesting to find out what the rest of his story will lead to.
